Students Against Destructive Decisions

Basic Facts About SADD

Our SADD chapter is open to all students at Matignon. We started out this year with approximately 60 members, and average 40- 50 per event. A student can join at any time and must follow the guidelines for academics as in all extra curricular activities at Matignon. We have 4 co-presidents this year: Seniors, Jennie Vital, Ashley Catatao, Shoshane Blocker and Samantha Rinaldo. Our elections will take place at the end of May for our next year cabinet

The SADD chapter at Matignon is very proud to announce that two of our co-presidents are also on the National Advisory Board. This was an application process open throughout the nation. Our two board members are Shoshane Blocker and Ashley Catatao. They will be joining other student advisors from across the nation for the National Conference to be held in Boston this summer. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and accolades.

The Matignon SADD chapter started this year off by collecting the names of every student, faculty and staff member printed on a slip of paper. The links of paper were then joined together to form "The Chain Of Life". This represented the unity of the entire Matignon community. Our goal is to go through the school year without breaking the chain. With SADD programs in our school, students have been taught the consequences of destructive decisions. Our pledge is to keep the chain intact.

During the holiday season the students from SADD joined forces with "The Local Heroes" organization. This organization based in Wilmington, collects supplies to send over seas to our troops in Iraq and Kuwait. Through the generosity of the Matignon community over 40 boxes were sent to the troops protecting our country. The troops in the 3-126th AVN Company will continue to receive a package every month from the Local Heroes. It's the little things from home that can have a large positive impact on the success of our soldiers. "Thank You" to all who assisted in the activity.

The SADD chapter at Matignon High School collected $400.00 toward the hurricane relief efforts in the North and Southern states. The students went to homeroom classes each day for a week and collected change and small donations. On the following week the students baked a huge selection of goodies and sold them for three days at lunch. The total amount collected was $400.00 and the members voted to donate $200.00 to hurricane Katrina and $200.00 to the New Hampshire American Red Cross disaster relief funds.

Awareness Day started with speakers from the “Think Ahead Brain Injury Foundation” and ended Mr. Peter DiGiulio. The"Think Ahead"program brought accident victims who spoke about the results of a drinking and driving accident. The long term effects of these injuries were evident and touched each of our students. Mr. DiGiulio from the”Why Say No" program spoke to the student body in a way no student will ever forget.

The second annual” SADD Talent Show” was another huge success. The production had over 18 talented faculty and student acts including tap dancers, saxophone player, and a variety of music and dance acts. A portion of the proceeds will be sent to local charities. This night proves to all young adults that you can have a fun filled night without the use of alcohol or drugs. Please join us next year for another night of up and coming STARS.!!!!!!
