Membership in the National Honor Society of Matignon High School is by invitation only. A faculty council of five teachers selects students for membership on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and service.
Freshmen are not eligible for membership in the National Honor Society. In order to be considered for membership, a student must qualify scholastically with an A- cumulative average, and a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. Active membership in at least three extra-curricular activities must also be evidence. (One may be an outside job). Students must submit proof of all outside service and employment on letterhead / stationery signed by the supervisor. As a National Honor Society member, a student must maintain the criteria by which he/she was selected. Failure to maintain these criteria will result in the issuance of a warning to the student. Matignon Students Raise Funds for Disaster Relief Efforts
The Matignon community has once again risen to the challenge of helping others. The Schools National Honor Society recently went on-line and was able to locate a school in Hurricane ravaged Louisiana serving students displaced by this disaster. St. Charles Catholic High School in La Place, Louisiana was mentioned on the Hurricane Help for Schools site and was listed as a school in need of assistance, this including a request for money to pay for textbooks. Although the student body through SADD had made a sizable contribution to The American Red Cross, the students felt compelled to reach out to another Catholic high school and offer both prayers and support. Janine Preble, a senior from Melrose and member of the Fr. Matignon National Honor Society stated, "It is only appropriate that students help one another especially in a time of such great need."
In response to the needs of St. Charles High School, a $500.00 donation on behalf of Matignon High School was sent to the high school to be used in whatever way best assists their efforts in helping students affected by this event. St. Charles High School is a co-ed Roman Catholic High School serving a population similar to that of Matignon High School. Both schools sit on the fringe of a large urban area, and both schools serve approximately the same number of students. The Matignon High School community continues to pray for everyone in Louisiana – those coping with loss and those working to rebuild.
