- Matignon High School is a site for the College Board Exams (SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Tests). These tests are administered at MHS in October, November, December, May, and June. The Matignon Test center administers both standard and non-standard administrations.

Fall
|
PARENT ORIENTATION EVENING Parents follow their child’s schedule and learn of course expectations and requirements for the new school year.

FOUNDATIONS FOR COLLEGE WORKSHOP This workshop is for freshmen and their parents. The Guidance Department discusses how study skills practices, high school resume, and course selection all impact the college preparation process.

|
|
“MAKING HIGH SCHOOL COUNT” This workshop is presented to freshmen by the organization, Making it Count, and it focuses on the importance of freshmen year in terms of the student’s preparation for college.

|
|
Guidance Department meets with each senior homeroom and distributes important information regarding the application process and deadline requirements.
|
|
|
FIELD TRIP TO UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS College admissions personnel at the University of Mass. at Boston provide a workshop to our seniors on the college application process and the writing of the college essay.

|
|
Guidance staff meets with all seniors during English class, to explain the college essay, review the college application process and deadlines. The importance of the October college visit that seniors make is emphasized.
|
|
|
Two Mini College Fairs are offered at MHS during the month of October that involves approximately 75 – 100 colleges.

|
Representatives from individual colleges such as WPI and Boston College visit with qualified and interested students.
|
Fall/Winter
|
Suffolk University Visit. Seniors who are applying to Suffolk University have the opportunity to interview with the Director of Admissions from Suffolk and receive on the spot admission evaluation.

|
COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID SEMINAR This seminar is presented to parents in the Media Center by the Guidance Director and a financial aid consultant. Information regarding FASFA process and MEFA opportunities are presented.

|
|
Senior Scholarship list is posted on the Matignon Web page bi-weekly. These are national, local and college scholarship offerings for seniors.

February/Winter
|
AFL-CIO Scholarship test registration. Test is administered at Matignon.
|
|
|
College visits to Holy Cross and Providence College are conducted by the Guidance Department and Administration. Groups of junior students visit the college campuses and meet with college admissions personnel and tour the campus.

Spring
|
“MAKING COLLEGE COUNT” This is a seminar for graduating seniors presented by the organization, “Making it Count”, in which tips and suggestions for success in the first year of college are discussed.
“MAKING THE COLLEGE SEARCH COUNT” This is a seminar presented by the organization, “Making it Count”, which prepares juniors for the National College Fair Experience and the college application process.
JUNIOR PARENT SEMINAR The Guidance Department conducts a seminar for parents of juniors on the college search process as well as what colleges are looking for from high school seniors.
National College Fair. School provides field trip to Boston where all juniors have the opportunity to visit with representatives from colleges throughout the U.S.

Multiple resources are made available in the Guidance Department including catalogs, videotapes, software and Internet access.
Matignon High School encourages parent involvement in student learning by providing two parent/teacher conference evenings, parent orientation night, quarterly interim reports, curriculum night, quarterly grade reports, optional weekly progress reports and parents are encouraged to contact the Guidance Department and/or faculty at any time. At the beginning of each school year, parents are invited to a Parent Orientation Evening where they follow their student’s schedule of classes. This evening provides parents with an overview of each course as well as the standards, requirements and grading procedures outlined by each teacher.
